Fitzmaurice-Garvin Insurance Agency was founded in 1946 by the late Jack Fitzmaurice. Beginning his career in 1969, Gary Garvin became Jack’s partner in 1980. In 1985 Gary became the sole owner of the property & casualty firm.
In keeping with family tradition, daughter Trina Garvin joined the agency in 1989 after graduating from Drake University, where she majored in insurance. In 1991, she further demonstrated a commitment to continuing professional excellence by obtaining the prestigious Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. Trina has experience in all aspects of the agency, with her primary focus on claims.
Her husband, Dave Kaplan, joined the agency in 2004, after retiring as a detective from the Traverse City Police Department. Dave has fostered his dedication to the insurance industry by obtaining his CIC designation and continuing education through Risk Management courses.
Third generation, Tanner Kaplan, is currently attending The College of Wooster in Ohio studying communications. With his passion for insurance, he will obtain his state insurance license this summer along with finishing his second internship program at Auto-Owners. He plans to come into the family business upon graduating in May 2019.
