Fitzmaurice-Garvin Insurance Agency was founded in 1946 by the late Jack Fitzmaurice. Beginning his career in 1969, Gary Garvin became Jack’s partner in 1980. In 1985 Gary became the sole owner of the property & casualty firm.
In keeping with family tradition, daughter Trina Garvin joined the agency in 1989 after graduating from Drake University, where she majored in insurance. In 1991, she further demonstrated a commitment to continuing professional excellence by obtaining the prestigious Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. Trina is in her second term as board member of the State of Michigan’s largest independent agents' insurance association, MAIA.
Her husband, Dave Kaplan, joined the agency in 2004, after retiring as a detective from the Traverse City Police Department. Dave has fostered his dedication to the insurance industry by obtaining his CIC designation and continuing education through Risk Management courses.

Kitty Avey, Customer Service Agent – Kitty has been in the insurance field over 20 years. Her area of concentration at Fitzmaurice-Garvin since 1992 is commercial lines processing.
Vicky Ayling, Claims Manager – Vicky began her insurance career in 2002; her area of expertise is in accounting and claims.
Rita Cole, Account Assistant – Rita has been in the insurance industry for over 20 years. She has been part of our commercial lines support team since 2004.
Pat Elshaw, Benefits Executive – Pat primarily focuses on all facets of group and individual benefit planning. He is also very active with State legislators, bringing solutions that allow free market activities which benefit the insurance and medical communities.
Josette Hoch, Account Executive – Josette received her insurance license in 2000, and has furthered her education obtaining the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation, which stresses the understanding and analysis of insurance risks and exposures. Josette’s specialty is personal lines sales and product research.
Edith McCall, Account Administrator – A veteran in the insurance industry since 1972, Edith has been receptionist and personal lines representative at our agency since 1998.
Sally Peters, Account Executive - Sally Peters has been in the insurance industry for over 13 years. She recently rejoined our agency, and she specializes in business insurance.
Kathy Riggs, Customer Service Agent – Kathy began her career as a licensed personal lines sales agent in 1992. Her focus currently is customer service for both personal and commercial lines of insurance.
Robin Small, Account Executive – Robin’s industry concentration has been in personal lines since 1996. She began in company underwriting and currently focuses on personal lines sales and service. She earned her Certificate in General Insurance by passing the national INS exam series. INS courses provide a comprehensive knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and policies. |
